How to say Hello
Here are some ways we can say hello in Australia. So, instead of saying, hello, you know, it's quite boring, formal, we always say hello, hello, hello. There are so many other ways we can say it, especially in an informal situation or when you're out and speaking with friends and at cafes and bars and things like that. So let's learn some other ways.
So we have the basic one, hello. Hi. Hey. Hey ya. Hiya. Howdy. G'day, that's very Aussie, g'day. Hey. Or you can say morning, afternoon, and evening with the person's name. So for example, if we're talking to a person named John, we can say morning, John, or afternoon, John, or evening, John. You can even just say good morning to people or morning, afternoon, evening, good night, night.
So you know, you'll hear the people saying hello in so many other ways like, hey mate, how's it going? Hey ya mate, how are ya? If we look at a very formal example, hi, how are you? I'm doing well, thank you, how are you? Nothing wrong with that. But if you want to say it in a more relaxed kind of Aussie slang way, informal way, you can say, Hey, how's it going? Yeah, I'm good thanks, how about you? You'll be surprised that we say these two sentences, we say these things so often in Australia, and if you want to improve your chit-chat and small talk with people and locals use this last example the next time you buy a coffee or when you're at a bar or restaurant or at the post office or bank. Hey, how's it going? That's all you need to say. Hey, how's it going? And then their response, yeah, I'm good, thanks. How about you?
So if someone asks you how you are or how's it going? You can reply, yeah, I'm good, thanks, how about you? Or if you want to ask them, hey, how's it going? So try using that the next time you're speaking with a local or someone at a shop and instead of saying hello, try all those other examples. Hi. Hey. Heya. Hiya. Howdy. G'day. Morning, afternoon and evening.
